About Expression of Hope Expression of Hope was created as a means to generate awareness and understanding of the incredible strength and courage of the thousands of people worldwide living with lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs). These people and their caregivers have submitted artwork which shares their feelings of hope and explores the realities, perceptions, and experiences of living with an LSD. Program Theme This program is about hope and spirit in the face of living with an LSD. Building on a concept from the “…also bin ich” (“..therefore I am”) program launched by the German MPS Society, it explores some of the differences and similarities between how someone living with an LSD views the world and how the world may view that person. In that spirit, people in the LSD community were invited to create their own piece of expression that answers the question: What can you express about yourself that others might not see? No artistic experience was necessary to join in. People were encouraged to consider discovering their own creative expression and sharing it with the community. Submission Guidelines
Outstanding pieces will be professionally framed and will go on the road as the Expression of Hope Exhibit travels to cities around the world where these inspiring pieces of art can be viewed by others in the LSD community. People will also be able to see all of the submitted art that meets program guidelines here on this website in the Expression of Hope Gallery. Submissions were accepted in photographic form, either electronically, on this website, or on paper, via postal service. (For more information, please read the full Program Agreement).
Commissioned Art In addition to the submitted art selected for the traveling show, other pieces representing individuals living with LSDs and created by artists from the Massachusetts College of Art will be displayed as part of the exhibit and in the online Expression of Hope Gallery. These commissioned works represent collaborations that took place early in 2006 between the artists and individuals in the LSD community. The Massachusetts College of Art is based in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. 2006 Program January 11 – March 31, 2006 March 31, 2006 May, 2006 June, 2006 Sponsors Genzyme is proud to sponsor this program in collaboration with patient organizations around the world.
